6. there are two general classification of Indians in N.M.: the Pueblos, who live in villages; and the Nomadic Tribes, one of whose Encampments - the Navajos - is pictured here. There are more Navajo Indians in N.M. than any other tribe. (39,000 in 1968)
7. Horses are vitally important to the Navajos as transportation, beasts of burden, and as symbols of their wealth and position.
