Description1. Of all the pueblos in N.M., only Taos has kept its fortress like appearance, due partly at least, to its resistance to change. It's mulit-storied construction is famous. The setting of San Geronimo de Taos, with the highest mts. of N.M. as background. (Mt. Wheeler - 13,151 ft.) is most spectacular. Note the ovens in the foreground of this view of the North Pueblo.

2.A closer view of an Old Bread Oven!

3. Taos has a large reservation (almost 1,500 people), with ample agricultural land & extensive grazing areas. The men conduct a lively business in deerskin articles, esp. mocassins. The women make some pottery. Several excellent artists have made their home here. In the foreground of this South Pueblo, you see Taos Creek.
