BiographyLaura La Plante, born Laura Laplante, was an American film actress, whose more notable performances were in the silent era. La Plante entered films as a bit part player when she was fifteen. Within a few years she rose to become the top female star at Universal Studios. She first played in Westerns opposite Hoot Gibson and other cowboy leads, then she moved to comedies and melodramas. She was frequently cast in the girl-next-door roles. Her film credits include: The Cat and the Canary (1927) and Show Boat (1929).
