BiographyThe Albuquerque Dukes were a minor league baseball team based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The first Dukes team was formed in 1915 as part of the Rio Grande Association and folded the same year. The Dukes returned in 1942 as part of theWest Texas-New Mexico League but the league halted play from 1943 to 1945 due to World War II. Play resumed in 1946. In 1956 the Dukes played as an affiliate of the New York Giants before switching to being an affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds in 1958. The league folded in 1958 but the Dukes returned in 1960 as part of the Sophmore League as an affiliate for the Kansas City Athletics. In 1963, the Dukes became the affiliate team fo rthe Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dukes name was temporarily dropped in 1965 but was reinstated in 1972. In 2000 the longtime owners sold the team to an group in Portland, Oregon who moved the team to Portland and renamed it the Portland Beavers.
