DescriptionA two-strand, reversible necklace of block turquoise and jet beads. In a contemporary nod to traditional jewelry making material and techniques, this two-strand, reversible necklace by Kewa (Santo Domingo Pueblo) jeweler Mariano Tenorio utilizes block turquoise, a material that is either completely synthetic or composed of reconstituted turquoise that is cut and sold in cubic blocks. Alongside the synthetic blue hues, the artist has added elements of yellow, dark red, and black, then shaped, tapered, and polished each piece to a high luster. Interposed are duel strands of cylindrical jet beads linking the block turquoise along a linen cord.On View
