DescriptionSaltillo serape / sarape, Tlaxcalan from the region of Saltillo, Mexico, wool, owned by the Armijo family, gift of John B. Colligan. Fringed, wool warp and weft, indigo and natural wool. Ambrosio Armijo brought this weaving to Albuquerque from Mexico via the Chihuahua Trail. The circular central motif is commonplace in Saltillo weaving, and is derived from Chinese textile designs imported to Mexico in the Manila Trade.
