DescriptionA rock formation known as "Echo Amphitheater" in Carson National Forest near Abiquiu, New Mexico. The cliffs around the amphitheater are light-colored rock and there are trees growing on top of the cliffs. There are shrubs and trees in the foreground, at the base of the cliff.
A typed caption on the back of the photograph reads, "Echo Amphitheatre is visible to the west from U.S. Highway 84, just inside the south boundary of the Carson National Forest. This spectacular formation was carved from sandstone-limestone cliffs by nature's inexorable forces -- wind and water -- over a period of thousands of years. The U.S. Forest Service maintains a picnic area which offers an excellent view of the amphitheatre. A short hike puts the visitor in position to test the echo!"
