DescriptionA dirt road leads up the mesa to Sky City in Acoma Pueblo, New Mexico. Cars are parked at the base of the mesa, near wooden corrals. The desert landscape of mesas and rock formations is in the background.
A typed caption on the back of the photograph reads, "The view from the heights of Acoma Pueblo, New Mexico's famed "Sky City" presents a panorama comparable to that seen from an airplane. On this rocky eminence the Spaniards found a flourishing pueblo when they came into New Mexico in the sixteenth century. Also located atop the mesa is the massive Mission of Acoma built in 1629."
