The medallion features the seal of the State of New Mexico in brown against a cream-colored background, encircled by the text "INAUGURATION W.C. MCDONALD - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - FIRST STATE GOVERNOR - 1912." William C. McDonald (1858–1918) was a Democrat.
