DescriptionThis circular political campaign pin features a sepia-toned portrait of Ezequiel Cabeza De Baca (November 1, 1864 – February 18, 1917) who was the first Hispanic person elected for office as lieutenant governor in New Mexico's first election as a state in 1912. The pin features the words “DE BACA / FOR GOVERNOR” curving across the top and bottom respectively in a beige over a blue background. De Baca's portrait is in the center of the pin in greyscale over a beige background. He was a prominent New Mexico politician who went on to win reelection in 1916 before passing away in 1917. De Baca was key to developing New Mexico's first state constitution which included specific language about providing bilingual education to all citizens. He was influential in shaping New Mexico's political landscape before and after statehood in 1912. This pin represents an important piece of political memorabilia, reflecting aspirations and the broader support for his leadership within New Mexico and beyond.
