DescriptionThis campaign button was produced for Edwin L. Mechem, who served as the 15th, 17th and 19th governor of New Mexico. At the end of his final term, Mechem appointed himself to the United States Senate. He lost his seat in the Senate after the 1964 elections. He was also one of five non-Southern Republicans in the Senate to vote against the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The button is mostly red, white and blue with white and blue text.
