DescriptionThis lapel pin was produced for Barry Goldwater, who was the Republican nominee in the 1964 presidential election, running against incumbent President, Lyndon B. Johnson. A senator from Arizona, Goldwater was known for his strong conservative views, advocating for limited government, lower taxes, and a more aggressive foreign policy, particularly regarding the Cold War. His campaign faced significant opposition from both moderate Republicans and Democrats, with Johnson winning a landslide victory, securing over 60% of the popular vote. Despite his loss, Goldwater’s candidacy marked a turning point for the Republican Party, helping to lay the foundation for the conservative movement that would rise to prominence in the following decades. The pin is mostly gold with black detailing. Gold text reads "GOLDWATER."On View
