DescriptionThis is a glaze-on-red storage jar with black glaze paint on a polished orange / red slipped surface. A 3-part geometric design in black is painted around the widest diameter with a broad neck band that includes three birds. Agua Fria Glaze-on-red pottery was made by Ancestral Pueblo people living in pueblos in the central Río Grande Valley and the Galisteo Basin. Bird designs are common on this pottery type. Rio Grande potters use glaze paint for distinctive designs incorporating imagery of birds, weather, and people. On View
