DescriptionMelini & Eakin Wholesale Liquors located at 111 South First Street in New Town Albuquerque, New Mexico. The shop is located in a two-story building with the ground floor composed of storefront windows filled with many signs and a draped and bunched striped canopy is at the top. The second floor has four open windows with curtains and the building has a unique decorative face. The street in front of the building is dirt and there are hitching posts out front to secure horses. There are additional shops on either side of Melini & Eakin Wholesale Liquors. At the viewer’s left is W.F. Myers Lodging advertising 50 cent "ALL NEW IRON BEDS." There is a "DO NOT SPIT" sign below it. To the right of the liquor store is a bar with 5 cent beers on advertisement.

New Town was one of the first Anglo settlements on Tiwa land in what is now Albuquerque, established about two miles east of Albuquerque's first Hispanic city center (contemporary Old Town). New Town spanned the railyards district and a few blocks west in Albuquerque's downtown.

Silver mirroring and emulsion deterioration is occurring on the glass plate creating color distortion and emulsion loss. The glass plate is broken in the top right corner.
