DescriptionThis deck of playing cards features black-and-white engraved portraits of renowned literary figures, accompanied by the titles of their notable works. The cards are rectangular with rounded edges. Each card displays a portrait of an author, their birth and death dates, and a list of their well-known books. Examples include James Fenimore Cooper (The Last of the Mohicans, The Spy, The Pilot), Walter Scott (Kenilworth, Ivanhoe, Lady of the Lake), and William Makepeace Thackeray (Vanity Fair, The Virginians, The Newcomes). The backs of the cards feature a repeating green floral pattern on a beige background. The numbering system in the top corners, such as "4," "6," and "7." At a time when books were primary sources of entertainment, such a deck would have served as both a pastime and a learning tool.
