DescriptionThis color photograph is of scientist Geoffry West with a written inscription and signature by West underneath. West is smiling and posing seated in a chair behind a desk.

The inscription reads:

Reality is multi-dimensional. It can be physical, spiritual, personal, subjective or objective.... and typically in all of these at the same time. The physicist concentrates on the objective, verifiable and physical aspects of reality where consensus rules. In this creation of that reality, however, this spiritual, subjective, and personal often play a crucial role. Organized religion, whatever it is, also demands a consensus and some aspects of objectivity even though its core is presumably deeply personal. Consensus reality is uniquely [?] human for its basis is trust and communication. A purely personal, subjective reality devoid of the possibility of external verification must surely lead to alienation and ultimately madness. The existentialists right-move!
