DescriptionThis photograph shows a wide view of the entirety of the stage area and some pews inside the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church. In the foreground about eight rows of pews can be seen bordering a center aisle that leads to the raised pulpit, with several decorative light fixtures above them. The pews are crowded with people wearing very formal clothing. The pulpit sits on a raised stage in the center of the church within an arched alcove. The alcove has two doors on either side, a decorative arch with pillars bordering it, and a bright white cross which appears to be glowing hanging from the arch by a chain. There are Latin letters written at the center of the cross. Reverend Ralph Abernathy is preaching at the pulpit, he has his right arm raised and us wearing a black suit and tie. The left side of the alcove has a tall chair and two pews in which two men are seated in formal attire. There is also a large sign which appears to have writing on top and a picture of two scales shaped like thermometers for measuring numerical amounts. On the right side of the pulpit is another tall chair in which Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth is seated and Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. standing beside him, both are wearing black suits and ties. Further to the right there is a collection of chairs and a large wooden structure which has been built into the church wall. There are two large windows on the left and right edge of the photograph. On View
