DescriptionIn this black and white photograph a group of newly registered voters take the voter registration oath for the state of Alabama inside of the Montgomery courthouse. On the left side of the frame a woman holds her right hand up and speaks towards a group of people arranged in a semi-circle in front of her. She is slightly out of focus when compared to the others. The new voters are all black and the have their left hands raised facing the woman. They are a mix of women and men and are all wearing formal clothing. In the background a man is looking into the room from a doorway.
