DescriptionThis is a triangular-based cast iron coal iron with openable lid and wooden handle. The lid is affixed to the body of the object with a hinge in the rear, and a swiveling iron hook at the front to lock the lid into place. Both the lid and body of the iron have large, symmetrical perforations on their sides to allow fumes from a burning heating element to escape and promote air circulation. The top of the lid has decorative carvings and indentations with a rearing lion motif in the center directly below the handle. Wooden handle appears to have been originally painted black, but paint has worn off the top of the handle revealing the wood's color underneath. On View
