DescriptionThis image depicts one of the petroglyphs at Petroglyph National Monument near Albuquerque, New Mexico. This carving has been made of a large piece of black volcanic rock. This particular petroglyph was done on a rock attached to the upward slope of the west mesa. The carving in the photograph resembles a human head. Hanging off the sides of the head's ears are what appear to be earrings. In the background, beyond the carved rock, various types of weeds and desert plants can be seen sticking up between the other rocks seen in the photograph.
