DescriptionA gouache study for a weaving collaboration. Strongly vertical in orientation, the background is green at the top and bottom, maroon in the interior, and orange at center. Thin stripes of white speckled with black resemble birch trees. The latter run vertically through the composition, passing in front of or behind the other fields of colors similar to lattice. At left is an index of color daubs, or swatches, corresponding to the colors used in the sketch, along with actual tufts of wool and silk referencing the materials used in the final needlepoint tapestry.
