DescriptionPeople gather at a Hachiman Jinja shrine near Umi, Japan, to celebrate the New Year and pray for happiness and health. Men, women, and children wear contemporary and traditional clothing and stand in an outdoor plaza in front of the shrine. A sign to the right lets visitors know that they can find out what their new year will hold and buy small trinkets under the tents along the walkway.
Photographer is Matsunaga Yutaka.
