The engraved metal plate on the plaque reads: "IN TOKEN OF OUR APPRECIATION AND GRATITUDE/WE, THE VETERANS OF/NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY/WOULD LIKE TO/PRESENT THIS PLAQUE TO/BOB HOPE/A MAN WHO HAS ALWAYS SHOWN GREAT INTEREST IN THE TROOPS OF OUR COUNTRY/THROUGHOUT HIS YEARS OF/ENTERTAINING DURING TIMES/OF CONFLICT AND PEACE./DEC. 14, 1973."
