DescriptionTwo bridges cross the Rio Grande in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The bridges are Interstate 40, although no paved roads connect the bridges to the highway. Tire tracks run through the mud leading toward the bridges on both the East and West sides of the river. A newspaper caption pasted to the back of the photograph reads, "These twin bridges span the Rio Grande river at Albuquerque, N.M., stretching from nowhere to nowhere. Eventually, the spans will carry I-40 (route 66) over the river. But the contract for the bridges was let before the contract for the highway. In the meantime, you can almost cross your bridges before you get to them."On View
