DescriptionNineteen men outside the entrance to a mine at Dawson, New Mexico. Twelve of the men wear their mine rescue gear, with helmets, air tanks, breathing hoses, and carry lanterns. Seven other men wear suits and carry lanterns. This is the mine rescue team. There are tracks and cables leading into the mouth of the mine. Dawson was a Phelps Dodge Corporation mining community and suffered one of the deadliest mining disasters in U.S. history in 1913 when dynamite exploded in Stag Canyon Mine #2, killing over 250 miners. On View
