DescriptionA mine rescue team in front of a building in Dawson, New Mexico. Five men stand and sit on the porch of the building, while ten others stand in front of the building. One man sits on a horse in front of the building. The mine rescue team members are each holding or wearing parts of their rescue gear, including helmets, air tanks, and breathing hoses. Several of the men are carrying lanterns. Dawson was a Phelps Dodge Corporation mining community and suffered one of the deadliest mining disasters in U.S. history in 1913 when dynamite exploded in Stag Canyon Mine #2, killing over 250 miners. On View
