DescriptionA mine rescue team inside a mine at Dawson, New Mexico. Nineteen men stand and sit inside a mine. Twelve of the men wear their mine rescue gear and some are standing wearing their helmets and facing into the mine. Other men are sitting on the floor of the mine and holding lanterns. Dawson was a Phelps Dodge Corporation mining community and suffered one of the deadliest mining disasters in U.S. history in 1913 when dynamite exploded in Stag Canyon Mine #2, killing over 250 miners.
