Electrolux

Stockhom, Sweden and Charlotte, North Carolina, founded 1919
BiographyElectrolux, created in the first half of the twentieth century, began with an agreement between AB Lux and Svenska Elektron AB. In the same year, the company implemented subsidiaries in Denmark, France, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, leading to Electrolux's release of Sweden's first electric stove in 1920. The following year, the company launched "Model V", an early step in creating the practical vacuum, and set up further subsidiaries in Germany, Belgium, England, and Finland. Continuing their successful production of home appliances, Electrolux began to market in both the United States and Australia by 1924, widening their recognition and adding to their audience. By 1931, Electrolux had established its first U.S factory in Old Greenwich, CT, and launched its first air-cooled refrigerator. Following the detrimental fire to the company's Lilla Essingen factory in Sweden in 1936, it was rebuilt in 1937 with product development as a priority, resulting in a central laboratory in the new factory. Continuing its legacy of producing practical home appliances, the company expanded its product range to items such as air filters meant for the Swedish defense forces to provide support during WWII. Post-WWII, Electrolux maintained its manufacturing of products, expanding its items to include appliances like microwave ovens, mechanical calculators, freezers, and more. Moving into the early twenty-first century, Electrolux's revolutionary stick vacuum was launched in 2004, with specific models winning the "Red Dot" design award during the 50th design competition in 2005. Gaining mainstream notoriety throughout North America during the twenty-first century, the company was known for its production of high-quality, often luxury appliances, as well as its emphasis on sustainability, receiving a double "A" grade from the Consumer Data Platform (CDP) in 2020 concerning climate and water action, a rare and prestigious score for a company to achieve, highlighting the company's long term commitment to sustainable and quality products. Globally recognized as a pioneer in manufacturing home appliances, Electrolux played an instrumental role in shaping modern home technology and significantly impacted environmental sustainability.
