BiographyWalter "Wally" Schirra was an American astronaut . He was the first astronaut to go into space three times, and the only astronaut to have flown into space in the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs between 1959 and 1968. He spent a total of twelve days in space. After he retired from NASA, he worked for the Belgian Consulate for Colorado and New Mexico from 1971 to 1984.
