Painter, muralist, and educator Nani Chacon was born in 1980 in Gallup, New Mexico. When she was around the age of 15, Chacon started as a graffiti artist, learning how to apply scale, color, design, composition, and style to large-scale paintings as well as a public connection to art. She earned her B.A. in education from the University of New Mexico in 2003. Her large scale, site-specific murals and installations often reflect the landscape and the people of the space, as well as addressing Indigenous thought and identity. She has received support for various projects from organizations including The National Endowment for the Arts, US Consulate and Embassy in Russia, The Obama Foundation, New Mexico Public Arts Foundation, National Museum of Mexican Art Chicago, Navajo Nation Museum, National Hispanic Cultural Center, and the Museum of Native Contemporary Art.
