BiographySister Mary Leoline Sommer was a Roman Catholic nun of the Sister of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary who completed to entire walk of the 1965 march from Selma to Montgomery. More commonly known as simply Sister Leoline, she was reportedly the only religious woman to do so. After the march she returned to Kansas City, Missouri where she worked with the Catholic Interracial Council and was a principal at the Christ King School. She was also among a group of clergymen who presented congress with a statement affirming the morality of the march after charges of indecency by congressmen. She retired in Salt Lake City, Utah.
