Robert A. Taft

1889 Cincinnati, Ohio - 1953 New York, New York
BiographyRobert A. Taft (1889-1953) served as a U.S. Senator from Ohio from 1939 to 1953. During his time in office, he co-sponsored the Taft–Hartley Act of 1947, which restricted closed shops, introduced right-to-work states, and regulated various labor practices. Despite his repeated efforts to secure the Republican nomination, Taft never had the chance to run for president. However, he left a lasting impact on the party, often clashing with the more moderate Republicans for control of its direction.
