DescriptionTwo women and four children sit near logs in Gallup, New Mexico. There are a pile of cut logs with a person seated on them to the left of the frame. Behind the women and children are sticks and brambles and three horses. The women are each holding a small child and there are two older children sitting and standing in front of them.
A typed caption on the back of the photograph reads, "Two Navajo women with their children as they appeared at the Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial at Gallup, New Mexico. The women wear wide flowing skirts and velvet blouses. They often wear the family fortune around their necks since this tribe very seldom keeps currency on hand. They prefer to invest their money in jewelry."
