A typed caption on the back of the photograph reads, "Across the Rio Grande opposite the present town of Bernalillo, New Mexico is the Coronado State Monument. The ruins of the impressive Indian Pueblo of the 16th century were excavated and stabilized by the Museum of New Mexico. It was in this vicinity that Coronado and his little band of followers spent the winter of 1540-1541."
