DescriptionMen spray water from hoses onto the upper story of the Grant Building on the corner of West Railroad Avenue and Third Street in New Town, Albuquerque, New Mexico. A crowd gathers to watch the fire. The opera house was housed on the second story of the building, and Ilfeld Brothers department store was on the ground floor. Canopies over the upper story windows are burned and tattered and the roof of the building has collapsed.

Railroad Avenue is now called Central Avenue and runs east to west through downtown. Albuquerque. "Railroad Avenue" came from being located along the city's railway and depot. The name was changed between 1907 and 1908. Central Avenue also overlaps with sections of the historic Route 66 Highway.
