DescriptionThe exterior of the Cromwell Block Building at the 100 block of West Gold and South Second Street in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The two-story brick building is located on the two dirt street corners with a wood boardwalk surrounding it. Above the corner-oriented font entrance, and on the building's side, it reads, "ALBUQ. NATIONAL BANK." Propped on a decorative ledge between the first and second floors is another sign reading, "JESSE M. ... HEELOCK Real Estate & Insurance." There is a cement sign built into the building's structure above the corner central column, attached to the roof reading, "CROMWELL BLOCK."There are men and boys on the boardwalk sidewalk, wrapping around the Cromwell Block building. A horse-drawn cart with four wooden wheels is parked to the side of the building with an advertisement for a grocers and bakery in the storefront behind it. The second story windows have fabric canopies above each. The corner windows are open and men in slack suits, separable starched white collars, hats, and mustaches are sitting or standing on the windowsills, smiling at the camera below.
The Albuquerque National Bank, which closed in 1893, occupied the first floor. After the banks closure, it was occupied by E.L. Washburn Clothiers.
