DescriptionThis campaign button was produced in opposition to Ronald Reagan's 1984 bid for the United States Presidency. The button was produced by Walter Mondale's campaign, who ran against Reagan in the 1984 election. Walter Mondale served as the 42nd vice president in 1976, serving two terms alongside President Jimmy Carter. A former senator from Minnesota, Mondale was known for his commitment to civil rights, social justice, and international diplomacy. Mondale's policy legacy includes his efforts on domestic welfare reform, environmental protection, and human rights. He is also remembered for being the first presidential nominee to select a woman, Geraldine Ferraro, as his running mate in 1984. Mondale’s impact on American politics remains significant, particularly in the realms of progressive policy and Democratic leadership. The button is mostly white with bits of red and black detailing throughout. In the center, there is a cartoonish caricature of Ronald Reagan with red and black text surrounding that reads "OUT THE DOOR IN '84" and "Dump Reagan."
