DescriptionThis campaign button was created for Wendell Willkie’s 1940 presidential bid, as well as for Wayland Brooks' campaign for Illinois Senator and Dwight Green’s run for Illinois Governor. Before running for the presidency, Willkie was the corporate president for the utilities company, Commonwealth & Southern Corporation. Willkie spent his time with C&S battling the federally funded Tennessee Valley Authority, that supplied power in competition with C&S. Willkie then decided to run for president through a fractured Republican party, running on an interventionist bill. Willkie lost the election to incumbent Franklin D. Roosevelt. The button is red, white and blue with blue and white text. Text reads "BROOKS / WILLKIE / GREEN."
