DescriptionThis campaign button was produced for Wendell Willkie's 1940 campaign for the United States presidency. Before running for the presidency, Willkie was the corporate president for the utilities company, Commonwealth & Southern Corporation. Willkie spent his time with C&S battling the federally funded Tennessee Valley Authority, that supplied power in competition with C&S. Willkie then decided to run for president through a fractured Republican party, running on an interventionist bill. Willkie lost the election to incumbent Franklin D. Roosevelt. The button white, with blue text. Text reads "WENDELL / IS / OUR / CAPTAIN."
