DescriptionThis campaign button was produced for Richard M. Nixon's 1960 presidential bid, with his running mate Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. Although Nixon and Lodge lost the election, Nixon would later serve a full term as president. He resigned from office in 1974 during his second term after audio tapes revealed his involvement in the Watergate scandal, a plot to break into his political opponent’s headquarters and steal sensitive documents. Nixon holds a significant place in American history, remembered for his administration’s role in the Vietnam War, being the only U.S. president to resign from office, and overseeing the first moon landing in 1969. The button is all blue with white text. Text reads "EXPERIENCE COUNTS / VOTE / NIXON / LODGE."
