DescriptionArthur Ross and a horse stand inside a high wood slatted fence in New Mexico. Behind and to the side of Arthur is a large pile of big tree trunks and unprocessed timber. Arthur holds a rope around a horse's neck and a chain in the other hand. Arthur wears a cowboy hat, a thick collared sweater with a vest on top of it, and trousers. There is a pocket watch in the chest pocket of the vest. He looks at the horse and the horse looks at the camera. The horse is dark with a light spot on its forehead. The tops of a rocky mesa peak out from above the fence line. Arthur Ross was the second child and oldest son of the territorial governor of New Mexico, Edmund G. and Fanny M. Lathrop Ross.
Silver mirroring and emulsion deterioration is occurring on the glass plate creating color distortion and emulsion loss.
