DescriptionThe blade of a medical saw, likely used for amputations of limbs. Amputations are one of the oldest surgical procedures, and are still used today, albeit more sparingly. At the time, the surgeon had to work quickly to avoid infection of the amputated limb. Pins at each end of the blade indicate points where a handle extension would be attached. This handle extension would allow the surgeon to use the saw with both hands, achieving the speed and force needed to complete the amputation quickly.On View
