Rick Dillingham fusionó ideas estéticas de diversas culturas sin recurrir a la imitación. Sus cerámicas combinan aspectos contradictorios de las tradiciones cerámicas pueblo y europeoamericanas. Dillingham modelaba, pulía, pintaba y cocía sus recipientes de manera convencional. Después rompía a conciencia el recipiente, volvía a pintar los fragmentos sin tener en cuenta el diseño original y, después, volvía a cocer al fuego los pedazos. Las vasijas de Dillingham no estaban terminadas hasta que volvía a pegar las piezas. Los diseños acentuaban la fragmentación del objeto.

Rick Dillingham fused aesthetic ideas across cultural boundaries without resorting to replication. His ceramics blend contradictory aspects of Pueblo and European American pottery traditions. Dillingham conventionally molded, polished, painted, and fired his vessels. He then consciously broke the vessel, repainted the fragments without regard to the original design, and re-fired the sherds. Dillingham’s vessels were not complete until he glued the pieces back together. The designs accentuated the fracturing of the object.
