DescriptionThis department store plastic clothing bag from Kistler Collister is a simple yet elegant representation of the reputable Albuquerque clothing store. Originally opened in 1909 at the corner of Second Street and Railroad (later Central) Avenue in Albuquerque and closing in 1995, the store's name, Kistler Collister, is featured on the bag in a bold, light green cursive font that mirrors the style of the store's branding. The words take up the upper part of the surface of the bag, creating a striking visual contrast against the neutral white plastic. Kistler Collister holds a significant place in Albuquerque's history as a premier department store. By the 1950s they carried fabric, linens, bridal wear, and clothing for children and adults. Later they specialized in daytime and formal fashions, lingerie, and hats. It became a symbol of mid-to-late 20th century retail culture in the city, catering to Albuquerque’s growing population and its evolving sense of style. On View
