On the bottom, a navy blue stripe with a small white star in the middle is pictured. "IKE" refrencing former president Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890-1969), who won the 1952 election with his running mate Richard Nixon (1913-1994) against Democratic opponent Aldai Stevenson II (1900-1965) who used these buttons to promote his campaign. Eisenhower's presidency held impacts in New Mexico such as utilizing military installations like the Kirtland Air Force Base, and the Los Alamos National Labratory for further defense throughout the Cold War, ultimately developing defense research and testing within the state.On View
