DescriptionThis tabletop croquet set includes a collection of wooden mallets, balls, metal wickets, clamps, and two striped wooden stakes, all housed in a sliding-lid wooden box. The mallets feature turned wooden handles with cylindrical double-ended heads, some adorned with colored bands. The wooden balls are painted in alternating sections of natural wood and vibrant colors. The wickets are made of metal with small red-painted wooden feet, designed to be clamped to a table using the included metal brackets. A rolled fabric boundary line completes the set. A worn paper label on the box reads "Improved Table Croquet." Tabletop croquet was a popular parlor game in the Victorian era, bringing the outdoor pastime indoors for year-round play. Tabletop croquet sets like this one were sold in department stores and specialty shops.
