DescriptionThis top collar pad is constructed of leather and hair for the interior. The top collar pad encompasses a rectangular form, and is intended to prevent slipping through its purpose of being a cushion between the horse's top collar and the equipment. The outer borders of the rectangular pad encompass a rougher texture, slightly reminiscent of a felt material. The texturized outer frame borders the smoother leather in the center, which includes a leather strap on each corner. There is a metal buckle on the straps, likely included for additional support when attaching to other horse equipment. A navy blue oval sits in the center of the leather, reading "Top Collar Pad / Nu-Idea / Mfd. By / Jim Dandy Collar Co. / Bradford, Ill / Price" in large, white lettering. The label refers to the Jim Dandy Collar Company, founded in the early twentieth century, eventually becoming a central business in horse collar manufacturing. The other side of the collar pad showcases the rougher texture over the entire surface. The tool served as a way to prevent injury and discomfort when gearing a horse with equipment, representing a contribution to increased mechanization and efficiency in transportation. On View
