DescriptionThis brown wooden stamp holder for the New Mexico Commission office features a cylindrical handle that flares into a larger rounded base, connected to a cuboid wooden stamp. The stamp's top surface is covered with light-colored vinyl and includes the typed text, “My Commission Expires Sept. 17, 1966,” with the year crossed out and “1970” penciled above by hand. Below the vinyl layer is a red porous material, designed to hold ink, and a black base with mirrored text for stamping. The text repeats "My Commission Expires Sept. 17, 1966." The stamp is linked to the Commission office of New Mexico, originating from 1921. Engraved on one side of the stamp is the manufacturer information:
“Simpson / Rubber Stamp Co. / 220 Gold, SW / Albuquerque / PH. Ch-3-4820.”
This artifact was manufactured by the Simpson Rubber Stamp Company, which was established in 1916 and operated at the Gold Avenue location during the mid-20th century. Stamps like this were essential tools for official documentation, reflecting the administrative processes of New Mexico’s government offices. The handwritten edits to the expiration date further emphasize the practicality of reusing materials.
