DescriptionA street view looking north on the 300 block of South First Street in downtown, Albuquerque, New Mexico. On the left-hand side is a line of brick and wooden storefronts. The Lindell Hotel at 315 South First Street is at the left, closest to the viewer. A sign in front reads "Lodging 25 and 50 Cents." The Arcade Rooming House, or "The Arcade House" is next door at 311 ½ South, with a "Barber Shop" and "Grocery" and "Bakery" following. Electric poles and wires line both sides of the street with sandwich style sign boards and bicycles lining the sidewalk. On the right-hand side of the street is the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Depot and Alvarado Hotel and train station (domed roof with adobe arches beneath) at First Street & Railroad Avenue.Railroad Avenue is now called Central Avenue and runs east to west through downtown. Albuquerque. "Railroad Avenue" came from being located along the city's railway and depot. The name was changed between 1907 and 1908. Central Avenue also overlaps with sections of the historic Route 66 Highway.
