Elfego Baca & the Baca name, is deeply woven into the pattern of Socorro history & development, & is well-known throughout much of the Southwest. He compliled an impressive & long list of offices & occupations, from clerk in a store to Mayor of Socorro. He became an efficient & fair lawman, as sheriff of Socorro County, with a reputation known among all law breakers of the time.
23. The Baca House! Elfego Baca will probably be especially remembered for the gun battle he had at Frisco with 80 Texas Cowboys. Named after him, the annual Elfego Baca Shoot is a unique, long-distance, exhausting golg event at Socorro.
